Here is the winning video in the 2013 Watch Out Loud! Teen Video Contest. The contest encouraged teens to create a video that educates their peers about the dangers of distracted driving. Participants created a short form video segment that was submitted to I Drive Safely’s Facebook page for voting on by their classmates and peers across the country.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 11 percent of all drivers under the age of 20 involved in fatal crashes were reportedly distracted at the time of the crash.
Description of the video from its creator:
Texting and driving takes your eyes off the road. In my video, we see a young man driving with his phone in front of him. The messages from his phone pop up on the windshield so he legitimately can’t see, demonstrating what texting while driving looks like. The story takes an unfortunate end when a girl crossing the street drops her phone and the young man, not able to see the red light, hits her.
